Alternative Canada Day Celebrations & Activities - 2020

While the City’s official Canada Day events have been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are still encouraging the community to celebrate with a decorating contest! Celebrating Canada Day a different way!

There will be 10 contest winners ($250 awarded per winner), and then the community can cast votes online to determine a grand prize winner out of the 10 contest finalists. The grand prize winner will receive an additional $500 in prize money!

Here’s what you need to do to enter the contest:

  • Decorate your home and/or yard in the spirit of Canada Day before July 3, 2020. *Please feel free to decorate your home for Canada Day on July 1st if you wish!*
  • Complete our online contest entry form by 12 noon on July 2, 2020 (visit haveyoursay.wetaskiwin.ca/canada-day)
  • Wetaskiwin City Council members will visit each registered home on July 3, 2020 and pick their top 10 winners! Each will receive $250!

The 10 finalists will have photos of their home/yard posted on Have Your Say Wetaskiwin from July 7 to July 12, 2020 and the community will vote for a Grand Prize Winner who will receive an additional $500 in prize money!

Still want to participate in some Canada Day fun, but don’t want to decorate? Wetaskiwin FCSS is holding a Virtual Scavenger Hunt that individuals or the whole family can participate in all day on July 1st. Family and adult prizes will be available to be won, and will be awarded on July 3, 2020.

Please follow these rules so that everyone can have a safe and fun experience.
1. Maintain physical distancing of 2 metres (6 feet) from other groups that are completing the scavenger hunt.
2. If one group is already at a clue, you will need to wait until they leave before you proceed to that clue.

You will have access to the Scavenger Hunt via the app 'ActionBound'. Please download this app on your smartphone to participate.
