The City of Wetaskiwin is no longer offering free dump week to residents as part of Community Clean Up week in order to lengthen the life of the landfill and increase diversion alternatives.
Use of the Wetaskiwin Landfill doubled during Free Dump Week, which drastically reduces the cell's lifespan. It will cost the municipality millions of dollars to close the landfill once it reaches the end of its life, so we must do everything we can to conserve its lifespan while saving for its eventual closure. Striving toward sustainability isn't always easy (or convenient), but if we all work together to achieve a more sustainable way of living, future generations will thank us.
